Identifying Kids' Strengths

To help kids thrive, recognizing their strengths is just as important as working on their challenges. Here’s a cool—and crafty—way to identify kids’ strengths and connect them in a paper chain, or a “strengths chain.”

Accomplishment Box

Setting goals gives kids something to work toward. But as they move forward, it’s important to help them look back at what they’ve already achieved—including small steps they may not have even realized were accomplishments. This can help them stay motivated and push ahead with confidence.

Making an “accomplishment box” is a fun way to help kids see their accomplishments—and watch them grow.

To get started, download and print this set of sheets. It includes directions and everything else you need to get started on an accomplishment box with your child.

Simple Density Science Experiment

Here's a simple density science experiment that you can try at home to see how liquids and objects with different densities behave. Using three fluids (syrup, water and oil) we can see they clearly have different densities, and form clear layers. By dropping items with different densities into the glass, we can see which fluids are denser than them.

Art: Drawing a Landscape

Here is a fun art lesson for kids on how to draw a landscape. This lesson teaches kids to be creative and how to layer using lines while learning concepts such as backgrounds and foregrounds. We also learn the term translucent. We make this landscape translucent with oils so it looks like its stained glass, and kids love putting it in their windows. This drawing is super fun and needs only a few basic supplies.
